I was on line and saw these cute and easy ways to make our own gift boxes and I thought I’d like to share these with you. Christmas is right around the corner and truthfully, it’s not just Christmas time that we often find ourselves needing a gift bag or box to put a gift in for someone. Hope you enjoy these sites.
I was browsing the Internet and found this article on buzz feed! How lovely! How simple to do too. These were from a site called keeper of the Cheerios . I tried my hand at it and came up with the below pic
I painted the glasses from inside with regular craft paint so that if I wiped the outside of the glass, the paint wouldn’t come off . Then I hot glued the feathers and pine cones and bells on. Around the stems I just wrapped pipe cleaners and then put a candle on top.

Due to the invention of garage door openers, I rarely use my front door.I have had it painted white since 1985 LOL. I wanted a bright cheery color for some time now. I did know that my welcome mat has been worn for some time now but did not have the means to replace it.
After painting my front door, my welcome mat not only looked worn, it was screaming, ” Help Me! ” . So, I decided to paint it. Yes, paint. It is a rubber mat, very thick and sturdy. So I took the exterior door paint and painted all the trim and designs that were raised and the flat surfaces I painted black as it originally was. Then I took craft paint and painted the flowers. Once dry, I coated it with three coats of clear spray paint that bonds to plastic so that it would protect the paint from rain and make it last longer.
The results? Well, I am very happy with how it turned out, MY FRONT DOOR is saying, “THANK YOU! ” and my WELCOME MAT is saying, ” WELCOME ” again. Hope that you’ll give this a try. It’s like a custom doormat and matches the door perfectly. Let me know what you think once pics are posted. 🙂
Hi everyone! I came across these videos that I truly love! The simplest ways I have ever seen to make a big job easier or just to maintain a sense of well being. Some of us may already know that having a lot of clutter around not only makes our day to day cleaning harder but also affects our ability to concentrate.
In this “oh so busy, fast paced world” we find ourselves living in, I don’t know about you, but I find comfort in getting home at the end of the day and relaxing. Enjoying the peace of mind that comes with being able to shut out everything and just being able to be free of the worlds demands on us is so soothing to my spirit.
I came across this woman, Kathy Roberts who truly has a FANTASTIC system that not only helps you in your day to day organization, but in your ability to have more time for yourself. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love that!? She has many helpful videos on YouTube and she’s also on Facebook . In the video I’ve included Kathy says one hour however that’s her room by room plan. She also has other videos ( over 300) that tell you to do the system the same way except you spend 15 minutes in this room, 15 minutes in that room. It is AMAZING what a difference 15 minutes can make. I think you would be very happy to hear what she has to say. Shes amazing! And so are the results! So, I have included a video for you to check out. It will change your world! 🙂
1. Use a coffee filter instead of paper towels to clean glass and mirrors. You will get a streak and lint free shine.
2. Sand the ends of your paintbrushes flat. You will now have the perfect dotting tool.
3. Bad odor in a small place? Place coffee in a filter or container and put into your small space. It will absorb the odor.
4. Have leftover soysauces, duck sauces etc from a takeout meal? Don’t discard. Place in ziplock bag or container and store in refrigerator. They’ll be neatly stored, out of the way and may be useful in a recipe.
5. Like to spray your home with scented sprays? Save money by spraying onto your A/C filter. It will distribute the fresh scent to your entire home at once .
6. Throw pillows getting a little flat? Pop in your dryer on air dry setting for a few minutes. They will be fluffy as new. If you use a dryer sheet they will smell fresh too.
7. Have too many small wallet sized photos? Buy a roll of magnetic strip and turn them into refrigerator magnets.
8. Love your lamps but have changed your decor colors? Get some craft paint and paint them. Spray with a clear spray paint to finish them off.
9. Move into a home with old switch plates? Save money and time searching at the store. Take them all off, wash and dry them and spray with white spray paint or whatever color you desire. They will hold up to cleaning for many years.
10. FOR ADULTS ONLY…. Want a new twist on your hot cocoa? Try adding a teaspoon of amaretto, romana sambvca, or your favorite liqueur .
This is such a nice tutorial I found, I thought I’d share it with you. The woman is a very good teacher and has a very soothing voice. Thefact that you can pause it until you catch up is a plus too. Enjoy! Happy crocheting!

This is a forty year walk down memory lane for me. When my children were smaller, my husband and I left them with a sitter in our home overnight, while we attended a function. When I arrived home, our usual babysitter, Valerie, stated , ” I made them oatmeal but none of them ate breakfast.” The children looked nervous, as if they knew they were in trouble. (Lol. ) I apologized to her and paid her and she left.
The bowls of oatmeal were still on the table and warm. My middle son asked,” Are we punished? ” and all began protesting. I asked, ” Were you disrespectful to Valerie?”. They said, ” No. But Mom, it’s disgusting, it’s not like yours. Valerie can’t make it right”. I looked at the bowls of clumpy oatmeal. This was the kind my mom used to make, that I hated and always got yelled at for because I took so long to eat it. The kind that sticks to a spoon when the spoon is upside down.
Three smiles appeared as I said, ” No, you’re not punished. This IS disgusting.” and promptly threw it away and made more. Three happy children sat and ate all their oatmeal . 🙂 I have taken care of numerous children in my life and have never had a child not eat their oatmeal. So, if your child wont eat their oatmeal, I hope you will try this recipe.This is how I make it.
You will need:
Dried oats ( I use Quaker, but not the 1 minute kind, though that would work fine too.)
1. Instead of boiling water, I use milk. ( if I’m low on milk, I have used half water and half milk and bring to just before the point of boiling.
2. Add your oats , stir, and lower heat to simmer for about ten minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. If it starts to get thick, add more milk till it is a creamy consistency, almost like a thick soup.
4. Turn off heat and add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and sugar to taste.
5. Serve hot and enjoy.
VARIATIONS: I have experimented with other pure extracts like almond and orange and recently, half water and half coconut milk. All were great! However, you will need less sugar if using coconut milk.
Funny name I know. However, I call it that because it seems like everything but the kitchen sink gets thrown in. Ever wonder what to do with your leftover veggies n pasta or rice? Americans waste a lot of food in comparison to other countries around the world. I was brought up being told I must finish everything on my plate, regardless if I were full or not, because kids were starving in places around the world. Now, people know that’s not a good idea and can lead to childhood obesity. With that said, it’s ok to have leftovers and you don’t have to discard them . Just toss them together and make a soup. I’ll tell you what usually winds up in mine but know that you can use any veggie cut into bite sized pieces. Any small macaroni or rice.
YOU WILL NEED:
Four quarts of chicken broth
Diced boneless chicken
Green beans cut in half or thirds
1 cup of rice or macaroni
One large carrot diced
Half of small onion minced
1 can of beans ( chickpeas, kidney, cannellini, navy or whatever kind you like)
1 ccelery stalk sliced small
Pepper and salt to taste
VARIATIONS: substitute beef broth for chicken broth and use tiny, already fried meatballs or steak sliced in place of chicken. Add diced potatoes and above vegetables.
For a vegetable type soup use water instead of broth but decrease water to two quarts and add 1-16 oz bottle of V-8 tomato juice and a cup of diced seeded tomatoes. You can add corn or any other vegetables you like.
DIRECTIONS: Throw everything in a large pot and bring to a boil and simmer twenty min or till macaroni is done. FAST and EASY.
Well, it’s that time of year again. Trick ot treaters at your door. Here’s a few things to consider if you are elderly or live alone. Do not open your door for trick or treaters who are bigger than you and have masks on. Due to the day and age we live in and the insane things we see on the news, this is an inherent danger. You can leave a plastic pumpkin in your walkway filled with candy for the little ones. Hopefully, a teenager will not come and dump the whole thing in their bag,. This happened to me one year. Hence now lights are off, blinds closed. Usually, I don’t get any knocks on the door anymore, so it’s effective.
One year, when my children were much younger, we’d go all over the neighborhood. All candy had to be inspected before eating. One year my six year old opened a mini mounds bar to find straight pins inside. Alarming? Yes it was! From that year forward, my friends and I would take turns having Halloween party at home. All children came in costume, played games n won prizes. Dunked for apples, musical chairs, pin the leaves on the pumpkin or eye on a skeleton etc. All got goodie bag on the way home and had lots of fun.
Most importantly, they were safe. While its a little late posting this blog, it is something you may want to plan next year. Turn your house into a haunted house, rotate at different friends homes each year.
I saw this video I would like to share with you. If you’re anything at all like me, you have too much stuff! While your home may be clean, it would look and feel better with less stuff. This lady was so enjoyable and on point with the hazards we face when starting our so called de-cluttering. We get side tracked. She has a system that definitely works. Enjoy.
